The China work visa points system is used to evaluate foreign talents applying for work permits and residence permits. Your total score directly affects whether you can successfully apply for a legal work visa in China.
This article explains all scoring items in simple language so you can calculate your score quickly and accurately.
1. Monthly Salary (Max 24 points)
Your monthly salary offered by your Chinese employer is one of the most important scoring items.
- ≥ 45,000 RMB: 24 points
- 35,000 – 44,999 RMB: 17 points
- 25,000 – 34,999 RMB: 14 points
- 15,000 – 24,999 RMB: 11 points
- 7,000 – 14,999 RMB: 8 points
- 5,000 – 6,999 RMB: 5 points
- Below 5,000 RMB: 0 points
2. Education Background or Professional Qualification (Max 20 points)
Higher education brings you higher points.
- Doctorate / highest international professional qualification: 20 points
- Master’s degree / equivalent technician qualification: 15 points
- Bachelor’s degree / equivalent senior worker qualification: 10 points
3. Work Experience (Max 20 points)
Relevant work experience improves your score.
- Less than 2 years: 0 points
- 2 years: 5 points
- Each extra year after 2 years: +1 point (max 20 points)
4. Annual Working Time in China (Max 15 points)
- ≥ 9 months: 15 points
- 6 – 8.9 months: 10 points
- 3 – 5.9 months: 5 points
- Below 3 months: 0 points
5. Chinese Proficiency (Max 5 points)
- Former Chinese nationality: 5 points
- Bachelor’s or above with Chinese as the teaching language: 5 points
- HSK 5 or higher: 5 points
- HSK 4: 4 points
- HSK 3: 2 points
- HSK 2: 2 points
- HSK 1: 1 point
6. Work Location (Max 10 points)
- Western regions / Northeast old industrial bases / national-level poor counties: 10 points
7. Age (Max 15 points)
- 18 – 25: 10 points
- 26 – 45: 15 points
- 46 – 55: 10 points
- 56 – 60: 5 points
- Over 60: 0 points
8. Extra Bonus Items (Max 5 points)
- Graduated from top overseas universities: 5 points
- Worked in Global Top 500 enterprises: 5 points
- Own patents or intellectual property rights: 5 points
- 5+ years continuous working experience in China: 5 points
